Greetings from the Frozen North

A typical day after the storm. We lucked out and only got 10 cm or so, other areas of the province got hit much harder and at one time there were over 40 thousand homes without power. The power here flashed off but just for a few seconds. A guest appearance by Little Red at the end of the video LOL.

2/4 The Art of Gothic: Blood for Sale: Gothic Goes Global (Ep3)

Published on Nov 3, 2014
The Art Of Gothic: Britain's Midnight Hour.
Episode 3/3 Blood for Sale: Gothic Goes Global.
First broadcast: Nov 2014.
Gothic fantasy horror would be outstripped by real horror as the truth of mechanised warfare dawned on an innocent world in 1914. The language of Gothic would increasingly come to encapsulate the horrors of the 20th century - from Marx's analysis of 'vampiric' capitalism to Conrad's dark vision of imperialism and TS Eliot's image of The Wasteland, a Gothic narrative seemed to make more sense of the modern world more than any other.

Cabin season is here, protecting the fig trees and the final harvest of ...

A collection of a bit of this and that to start of I have the first fire in the wood-stove out at the cabin for the season, some bird watching, things are getting colder so I moved the onions and garlic that was stored in the cabin into the house before they got damaged then prepared the fig trees for winter and harvested the last of the vegetables the cabbages and parsnips.

Something of interest in the Quarry

I wanted to show you something that happened in a Quarry not far from my house. Along the way we look at some of the late Autumn fruit and foliage. Also I would like your help in identifying a plant that I've been watching all summer and have collected seeds from to grow in my garden next year.

For the last time honest LOL

My last attempt at TiltShift on this video and I like it better than the other one, only 17 seconds long .

TiltShift - East Quoddy - Head Harbour Lighthouse (No soundtrack)

This is the same time lapse clip of the light house that was in a previous video. Rob (oldgardenerguy) in Finland said it looked like a Tilt Shift video. I didn't even know what that was but now I have bought an app and have been playing around with it using this clip. Let me know what you think.

East Quoddy - Head Harbour Lighthouse

A short visit to our beautiful lighthouse which has been lovingly restored and maintained by a group of local dedicated volunteers. A very windy day which isn't at all unusual at the northern end of Campobello Island. There is a time-lapse clip in the middle of the video the frames were taken at the rate of 1 every half second and are being played back at the rate of 120 frames per second there are a total of 5269 frames in all. The tide was rising as I made the video so if you watch some of the rocks at the shore line they will disappear under the water as the tide comes in.

4/4 The Art of Gothic: The City and the Soul (Ep2)

Published on Oct 27, 2014
The Art of Gothic: Britain's Midnight Hour.
Episode 2/3 The City and the Soul.
First broadcast: Oct 2014.
As the Industrial Revolution promised more and more inexplicable wonders of the modern world, Gothic art and literature became both backward and forward looking. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warned of the dangers of how science could get out of control, while Sir Giles Gilbert Scott used Gothic architecture to memorialise Prince Albert as a medieval hero. Meanwhile, poets indulged in hallucinatory drugs to reach new Gothic heights. Where would it all end ?

First Snow & end of season clean up

We had our first snow on November 2nd. not a lot here along the coast only a few centimetres northern areas of the province got a lot more and there were also lots of power outages in some places. Fair warning that winter is on it's way though and time to get all of those last minute jobs done before the big freeze arrives. In the video I harvested the last of the Thai and Cayenne chillies, both of these varieties are heirloom and as I said in the video I will be offering seeds on David's (Work With Nature) website http://heirloomseedsaving.com a great source of information on seed saving and also free heirloom variety seeds. Currently I offer Blue Podded Pea seeds and will add these chilli seeds as soon as they are dry. The video from last year on Pickled Cauliflower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BXLflwlp5o

The Girls Moved Next Door

From the hatch of Chantecler chicks this summer I got 6 hens and 6 rooster, way to high a hen to rooster ratio. So I decided to move the hens and the 5 mixed breed bantams, that also hatched this summer, over into to the larger coop and leave the 6 Chantecler Rooster in a bachelor pad in the new coop for the winter. The video shows how this is working.

4/4 Dan Cruickshank and the Family that built Gothic Britain

Published on Oct 21, 2014
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFI5G...
First broadcast: Oct 2014.
As good as any Dickens novel, this is the triumphant and tragic story of the greatest architectural dynasty of the 19th century. Dan Cruickshank charts the rise of Sir George Gilbert Scott to the very heights of success, the fall of his son George Junior and the rise again of his grandson Giles It is a story of architects bent on a mission to rebuild Britain. From the Romantic heights of the Midland Hotel at St Pancras station to the modern image of Bankside power station (now Tate Modern), this is the story of a family that shaped the Victorian age and left a giant legacy.

BELGIAN ENDIVE, JERUSALEM ARTICHOKES, PARSNIPS, BRASSICAS AND PEPPERS

Time to lift the Belgian Endive before the weather gets any colder the parsnips grow right next to the endive so I also pulled a couple of those which turned out to be a nice size, I will leave  the rest until we have had a few more frosts. I cut down the Jerusalem Artichokes and dug up a couple of them to harvest some chokes. In the hoop house I harvested the last of the Broccoli and another Cauliflower. There are lots more of the ripe chillies to be harvested soon.
